Reiki for the CPD's South Shore Instructors

Chicago police officers receive ongoing training at a facility on the south side. Instructors there teach everything from how to respond to calls during a power outage (no light), to de-escalation of Use of Force.

Favorite feedback: “I was in a deep trance.”

Joanna and I were grateful to be well received at this venue while offering reiki to 15 of the CPD’s instructors.

The woman stationed at reception went to the trouble to light some lavender candles for us, to create a healing atmosphere in the library where we were volunteering. We had good vibes from the start.

We worked with a few folks who remembered us from last year’s visit to the facility. Some had tried the reiki, others had heard about it afterwards from their colleagues and regretted passing up the opportunity. They didn’t make the same mistake twice.

We recorded anonymous feedback before and after the sessions and these are the collective results: A four-unit drop in recorded pain after the sessions, and lots of positive comments.

Some officers wanted to focus on stress, and they reported a 2.5-unit drop in severity afterwards. Of course we can’t predict what reiki energy will help with in advance, but we can set an intention and report what people say.

We look forward to more opportunities to work with the CPD, and perhaps offer reiki training at some point down the line.
